• Fuller’s earth is a clay-like substance that is mainly composed of aluminium silicates.

• It may look a little alarming, but it is perfectly safe. In fact, it has even been used for cosmetics and skin care!

• It’s key use is to decolourise oil and other liquids without harsh chemical treatment.

• Other than in older Agas, you may find Fuller’s earth being used as special effects in the film industry, as decontamination material in the emergency services and military, and as treatment for poisoning.

• Fuller’s earth was used throughout ancient times in the production of garments. Even Pliny the Elder mentioned varieties of Fuller’s earth in his works.

• Its other names are Whitening Clay, Bleaching Clay, and Multani Mitti. Multani Mitti comes from the Pakistani city of Multan, where it is widely used in cosmetics.
