Introducing the Electrickit Advanced Conversion System: Our In-Depth Review

Thanks to our strong partnership with Electrickit manufacturer Oilwarm, we were chosen to participate in the field trials for the new Electrickit Advanced. After having this system in our home for several months, we’ve gained a deep understanding of its capabilities and are ready to guide you through your conversion or purchasing decision.

Our verdict? We absolutely love it!

What We’ve Installed:

We initially had a 4-oven Electrickit Original, which we recently upgraded to the Electrickit Advanced. This also includes the latest 1.5kw induction, a larger 2.2kw hob, and a high- temperature hot cupboard with independent warming plate. The system has evolved over time with design updates, and what we have now fully reflects the final product, which is available for purchase. As a long-time vocal advocate of the Electrickit—and a passionate Aga owner—I can confidently say the Advanced system is exceptional. It is revolutionary in its design and outstanding in its results. As a former chef and a lover of good food, our cooker is at the centre of our lives and its performance is key. Whether it’s slow-roasting meats that stay beautifully moist or enjoying the even, radiant heat cast iron is known for, the Electrickit Advanced satisfies and delights on all fronts. As a busy working mum of 2 young boys, it offers us complete flexibility & in these times of increased awareness about energy use, allows us to be more efficient than ever, whilst not sacrificing the traditional Aga feel that we adore.

The Induction Hob:

We previously had an earlier induction retrofit before the Oilwarm version was available. The newer model now responds more precisely, allowing for delicate cooking. For example, when cooking a French onion soup, sliced onions were gently sweated for 30 minutes without colouring, before gently increasing the heat to caramelise.

Despite this improved performance at lower temperatures, it still achieves boiling at rapid speeds:

 1 litre: Boils in 5 minutes (without a lid) or 4 minutes with a lid.

 500 ml: Boils in 2 minutes 50 seconds (without a lid) or 2 minutes 20 seconds with a lid.

The 3-Element Oven System:

In the Electrickit Advanced, the right side (which in a 2-oven Aga includes roasting and simmering ovens) features three heating elements—between, above, and below the ovens. This provides full temperature control, allowing both ovens to roast, bake, or simmer independently. One significant improvement is the top element, which makes browning dishes much easier and more consistent. I am really excited for Christmas this year - the capacity to bring the bottom oven to roasting temperature suits my cooking style well - we tend to cook lots of roast vegetables, stuffings and garnishes, alongside the roast meat and potatoes. It has already come into its own for a rained off BBQ, where we were able to rapidly roast meats in 3 ovens, something not previously possible in any Aga model!

Both the Classic and Advanced versions feature improved heat up times - reaching temperature in as little as 48 minutes from cold.. Unlike other conversions, minimal saturation time is required. This is because the Aga heats rapidly, then slowly heats through the last 10 degrees. During this time, the heat spreads through the cast, avoiding the scorching hot cast that can be synonymous with rapid heat up. Cooking results will continue to improve with 20 minutes saturation, when the top and bottom of the oven will even out in temperature but results are better, faster, than with any other system.

High-Temperature Hot Cupboard:

The high-temperature hot cupboard is a complete game-changer!

This optional upgrade transforms the simmering/warming oven into a full high-temperature oven, perfect for summer use. The heat-up time is impressively fast—just 25 minutes to 170°C—and it cooks evenly, like a conventional oven. In the winter months, the increased heating capacity means the Advanced can produce substantially more ambient heat. When run at full capacity, the heat released is only slightly reduced compared to that of a traditional model.

Independent Warming Plate:

Another absolute winner in our house! Without a tumble dryer or radiator drying capacity, most of our drying happens on the Aga. Previously, most of the cooking in our Aga happened in the right hand ovens, whilst the left hand side was on purely to provide drying heat. With the high temperature hot cupboard there are two options, a 2 ring ceramic hob or an independent warming plate. With our warming plate constantly in use, it was important to us to retain this. The warming plate now has its own touch screen switch and can be turned on when the ovens below are off. At only 100 watts usage per hour, this gives us 12 hours a day drying capacity on the 4 oven side for just £2 a week. The warming plate heats in just 2 minutes from cold so can be turned on to churn through a stack of stubborn to dry Tupperware, to warm plates or to dry soggy trainers and costs pennies when used in this manner.

Larger 2.2kW Hob:

The 2.2kw hob can be installed on the right or left side. With the original, the plates reached full temperature in 30 minutes from cold, with the Classic it is 18 minutes, with the Advanced 2.2kw, this is reduced even further to 14 minutes. I find myself using this hob a lot more now. If I am cooking something for an extended period of time, I turn on the hob, bring to the boil on the induction, then move to the right hand hob to simmer. It is possible to fit numerous pans on this hob, significantly increasing hob capacity. Whilst it is possible to fit more than 1 pan on the induction, the bases must have full contact with the glass to ensure the magnetic connection is not broken. This is not the case with the larger traditional hob, with the larger cooking surface providing greater capacity than a traditional boiling or simmering plate.

In addition, by doing away with the expansion ring, more heat from the hob reaches the Aga top plate. This heat is soaked up by the cast and stored, resulting in increased ambient heat and that lovely toasty top plate that we all love on our Agas.

Programmable Timer:

The Advanced system features a programmable timer, accessible via a touchscreen or WiFi app. The touch screen offers 2 settings per day, whilst the App allows for up to 10 daily settings. The programmer allows us to optimize energy use while keeping the convenience of having a ready-to-use oven whenever needed. The introduction of a variable “rest” setting, allows the Aga to be either turned off or simply turned down, between uses. An example as to how the timed programmer could be utilised:

Saturday: Top right oven set to come on at 200c for 07:30. Up to temperature by 08:30 for a cooked breakfast. Turns back to rest setting of 140c for gentle ambient heat.

Top right oven set to come back to 200c for 16:00 to prepare dinner for friends. In addition, bottom right oven comes on at 140c and top left oven comes on at 170c. Top right oven drops back to 180c and top left oven to 140c for a cosy evening of ambient heat. Bottom right oven turns off.

Sunday: Top right oven set to come up to temperature at 10:30 to start to prepare Sunday roast. Both bottom right oven and top left ovens also set to come on. Top right oven set to 230, bottom right to 200 and top left to 130.

All ovens set to drop to 160 after use for a day of drying. Roasting oven comes back up to 180c for evening meal. Other ovens turn off.

Monday: Top left oven set to come on at 180c for 6:30. Up to temperature ready for a quick breakfast at 7. Turns back off at 7:15. Top right oven set to come on at 200c for 17:00. Up to temperature ready to begin cooking by 18:00. Turns down to rest setting of 160c for overnight drying of washing.

We are very new to the wifi but will keep you updated with our experiments over the coming weeks.
