Installation
Genuine, knowledgeable, properly trained Aga engineers are an absolute rarity in the US, though there are a sprinkling to be found. A poorly installed Aga will simply never perform as it should; at best it will be unreliable and not provide the authentic Aga experience, at worst it will be very dangerous. A proper installation is an involved and quite costly undertaking and this should always be taken into account when privately purchasing an Aga. Too many of our US customers have found that in engaging underqualified engineers, they have had significant retrospective rebuild requirements.
Our installations are always carried out by our specialised, trained Aga engineers who have a wealth of experience under their belt. US installations are carried out by Steve himself, our co-director and lead engineer. Steve covers Oil, Gas, Electric and Solid Fuel Agas and Rayburns. From the most obscure conversion to limited edition models or the Control Series, Steve has a deep knowledge of the entire Aga / Rayburn range, as well as conventional cookers. Whether you have an Aga already that you’d like to install, or whether you’d like to purchase and install one of our own refurbished Agas, you can be content in the knowledge that your precious Aga is in the safest of hands.
Servicing
All Agas need some sort of servicing, ranging from every six months for an oil Aga, to every five years for a low maintenance 13 AMP electric Aga. It is essential you regularly service your appliance so it can continue performing to your expectations.
In the US, legislation for Gas Aga servicing is less stringent than that of the UK, where engineers must be Gas Safe registered by law, but it is vital that Gas Agas are serviced annually as a matter of safety. Due to the lack of legislation, there is also a scarcity of qualified gas Aga engineers in the US, so we can provide an alternative solution to make sure your Aga is running both effectively and safely.
Our servicing includes all the following:
Clean through burner, pilot and injectors
Replace thermocouple
Check operation of thermostats and safety devices
Change relevant gaskets and rope seals
Clean baffles and heat exchangers
Check gas pressures including burner pressure and gas rating of appliance
Check combustion and chimney performance, including spillage tests
Check for general safe operation of the appliance and advise accordingly
Clean and test operation of fans
Cosmetic checks, insulation check and more.
If your "engineer" is simply changing a thermocouple during a service, change your engineer! We have discovered Agas on previous US trips that have been leaking gas in various places due to a lack of proper servicing. We cannot express enough how dangerous this is, so please do contact us if you have any doubts whatsoever about the safety of your Aga.
Parts and spares
We hold a full range of parts in stock which can be shipped for your resident engineer to fit. We can also source almost any more obscure part from the range of suppliers available to us. This includes 13Amp, gas, Total Control, Dual Control, Aga S Series 6:4, Aga modules and Companions and the newest ER7 , R7, R3, ER3 and Aga 60 models.
Conversions
We are industry leaders in Electrickit and eControl conversions, and we are finding these are particularly popular in the US due to seasonal temperature variations. Many users find themselves with gas Agas that they simply cannot bear to use in the summer months, resorting to running their aircon to keep things bearable so they can still use their cooker! A controllable electric conversion gives year-round flexibility and superior reliability with minimal maintenance. They offer an excellent alternative to traditional Agas, whilst keeping that authentic Aga feel that we all know and love. If you’d like to find out more, we have a treasure trove of information under the conversions tab here on our website and we are always happy to talk you through the logistics by phone or email.
Refurbishment
One of our most exciting offerings open to both UK and US customers is our refurbishment and finishings, offering a chance to completely transform your Aga. So far, our US trips have included a full refurbishment with brushed gold finishes to suit a home renovation, a re-enamelling with our colour match service to suit new kitchen cupboards, and numerous refurbishments and partial refurbishments from our Treatment list and Mini Makeover list.
In particular, our Bangs and Brows Treatment, in which we replace the top plate and lids of the Aga with a re enamelled top and new chrome fittings, is particularly popular in the US. Many of the traditional Agas in circulation are of increasing age and showing considerable wear. We can bring your Aga back to “as new” condition with replacement parts.
If you would like a partial or full refurbishment, we will prepare parts in our West Dorset workshop and then ship them before refurbishing your Aga onsite in the US. With all our US shipments, we arrange the whole process from start to finish, shipped fully insured and customs paid. We do not subcontract; all work is undertaken by our own engineers, so you will get a bespoke and personalised service with direct dialogue with our engineers and with us back in our Dorset office throughout.
How does it work?
We schedule numerous US trips a year and work with you to make the logistics of cross-continental business as smooth and worry free as possible.
Contact us for a quote. We will send pricing and information and can discuss works via email, phone or Zoom.
We will advise if we have any prebooked work in the area and of our upcoming trip schedule. Usually, we combine a number of large jobs (installations, conversions, rebuild etc) across the region, alongside additional services and repairs. This is the most cost effective option as costs will be shared. Alternatively, if there are time pressures, we can arrange a stand-alone visit. Please note, we travel internationally predominantly during the months of January - August, due to our busy Autumn / Fall UK schedule. Arrangements can however occasionally be made outside of this schedule where absolutely necessary.
Any large parts are sent 4 weeks ahead of time. We share pallet costs where possible and deliver to bonded warehousing. We then collect these parts in person and bring to you for installation. Where a whole Aga is ordered, this is shipped directly to your door. We also bring a range of service related parts and tools with us from the UK as luggage. This ensures that all eventualities are covered, whilst reducing shipping costs. No customs costs are applicable to our shipments.
All works will be undertaken in person by our Aga trained accredited engineers. Alternatively, we can provide parts or whole Agas shipped for installation by your own engineer.
We are fully available for follow up queries and advise and for future servicing if desired.
